Central to our ethos is a belief in the transformative power of outdoor learning, and we are seeking a passionate and dedicated Outdoor Learning Assistant to join our team. The Role: As an Outdoor Learning Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the Outdoor Learning Lead in delivering engaging and inclusive outdoor education sessions for children with SEND. This role combines the responsibilities of a learning assistant both on-site and in outdoor settings, fostering children’s development, resilience, and connection to nature. You’ll assist with planning and facilitating a range of activities inspired by the outdoor learning framework and other experiential learning approaches. Your work will involve everything from crafting and nature-based activities to team-building exercises and environmental exploration. Most importantly, you will help create a safe, fun, and inclusive space where our young people can flourish. Key Responsibilities: Work alongside the Outdoor Learning Lead to plan and deliver outdoor learning sessions tailored to the individual needs and abilities of children with SEND. Provide support in both outdoor and classroom settings, helping students access the curriculum. Assist in creating and maintaining a safe learning environment, ensuring all activities comply with health and safety guidelines. Encourage and support students to engage fully in outdoor learning opportunities, fostering confidence, social skills, and a connection to the natural world. Support students with SEND during learning activities, adapting approaches to meet a range of physical, emotional, and communication needs. Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage participation and a sense of achievement. Collaborate with colleagues to monitor and document students’ progress and achievements. Help with the preparation, maintenance, and tidying of outdoor learning resources and spaces. Desired Skills & Experience: Experience in supporting children and young people with SEND, preferably in an educational or outdoor setting. A passion for outdoor education and its benefits for young people. Knowledge or experience in outdoor learning frameworks (a relevant qualification is desirable but not essential). Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with children, families, and staff. A creative, proactive, and flexible approach to supporting young people in their learning and development. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
