Job responsibilities Stem Cell Department duties: 1. Conduct specialist analytical work, including complex flow cytometry, white and red cell analysis, for assessment and enumeration of stem cell and donor lymphocyte collections and for disease monitoring, treatment and management of diseases. 2. Process therapeutic cells for storage, un-supervised, in a GMP clean-room facility, employing specialist sterile technique and environmental monitoring procedures. 3. To perform transport and preparation of cells for transplantation on haematology wards and the Day Care Unit (DCU). To communicate empathetically with patients undergoing cell therapy. 4. Liaise closely with clinical staff to report urgent results and plan daily work based on obtained results. 5. Respond to telephone inquiries regarding results and the availability of therapeutic cells for transplant, providing advice on cell storage to clinical staff within the South West Peninsula Transplant Service (SWPTS). 6. Communicate with the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow registry to receive donor cells from couriers. 7. Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, clinicians, and other staff within the SWPTS to coordinate work planning and address inquiries related to results and services. 8. Support an extensive audit and validation intensive quality programme for continual service development and improvement. 9. Contribute as part of a team to the continuous improvement program of the SWPTS, ensuring high standards of service and compliance with regulatory requirements. 10. Play a supportive role in preparation for inspections with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licence regulators and Joint Accreditation Committee-ISCT & EBMT (JACIE) international accreditation panels to aid service licensing and accreditation compliance. General responsibilities: 11. Possess advanced specialist scientific skills to perform complex manual, semi-automated, and automated analytical techniques, ensuring prompt and accurate reporting of results. 12. Provide complex information relating to test results, including sensitive data, understanding the pathology of diseases and the clinical significance of results produced. 13. Perform appropriate supplementary tests/investigations to provide comprehensive reports to requesting clinicians. 14. Plan and prioritize daily work, ensuring urgent analyses are performed and results are promptly reported to clinicians. 15. Identify abnormal or unexpected results, ensuring timely reporting, follow-up, and referral to medical staff as required. 16. Understand the principles underlying analytical processes to maintain their operation and quality, operating and troubleshooting complex analytical equipment. 17. Reconstitute and prepare calibration and quality control materials to ensure accurate and precise results. 18. Participate in quality assurance programs, ensuring internal and external quality control procedures are followed and corrective measures are taken when necessary. 19. Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge and documentation in the Continual Professional Development (CPD) folder. 20. Support maintenance of adequate stocks of reagents and consumables, utilizing the Trusts Electronic ordering system efficiently. 21. Assist the Band 6 BMSs in maintaining and ensuring the quality control of instruments and equipment, updating and generating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 22. To be aware of, understand, and follow SOPs, maintaining accurate induction and training records. 23. Communicate departmental difficulties, problems, accidents, or incidents affecting service delivery to band 6 and line managers promptly. 24. Supervise and provide training to Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Assistant Technical Officers, ensuring adherence to departmental standards and procedures. 25. Support audits, clinical trials, and research & development activities, contributing to sample preparation, analysis, and data collation as needed. 26. Participate in annual Individual Performance Reviews (IPR) and achieve any target set 27. Support the Band 6/7 BMSs with the implementation of new techniques and methodologies, supporting research and development activities within the department. 28.
