Description
Job Purpose: The Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of learning, teaching and assessment occurs across the college with academic support provided to English and Maths. The Assistant Principal will have up to four direct reports and will be a valuable member of the college’s management team (CMT).
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide high quality leadership, line management and communication for the college’s curriculum areas, including Vocational & Supported Internship (Voc & SI), Learning, Employment and Progression (LEAP), Preparation for Life & Springboard (PfL & SB).
2. Lead on the whole college curriculum, ensuring that curriculum areas are planned, recorded, monitored and impact assessed to meet student needs, college directive, and MIS systems.
3. Be an effective lead in the continuous quality improvement of the teaching and learning experience and collaborate with all other Assistant Principals and the Deputy Principal.
4. Ensure the curriculum teams provide engaging and aspirational teaching and learning experiences that result in high achievement and purposeful progression.
5. Provide high quality, meaningful reports on the college curriculum development to the Deputy Principal, CMT, and governance meetings.
6. Be an experienced member of the college observation team, providing appropriate observations, records, feedback, and attending validation meetings.
7. Develop innovative curriculum in liaison with curriculum managers and teams.
8. Lead the curriculum input for admissions panels, course alignment, and timetable planning.
9. Liaise with senior colleagues for efficient use of resources, including timetabling and staff utilization.
10. Produce and present effective reports for addressing college priorities and strategic aims.
11. Direct and support curriculum areas to ensure timely and constructive production of Self-Assessments Reports and Quality Improvement Plans.
12. Lead the development of staff to ensure the wider educational needs of students are met.
13. Liaise with external stakeholders to ensure educational and support requirements of students are maintained.
14. Participate in staff training and development as required.
15. Liaise closely with the Marketing Team to promote QAC as a provider of choice.
16. Contribute to preparations for Ofsted, LA, ESFA, and other reviews and audits.
17. Promote the college’s visions, mission, values, and purpose through effective coordination of staff.
18. Contribute to other duties as commensurate with the status and nature of the post.
19. Attend ongoing observation team training as requested.
20. Develop & deliver aspirational continuing professional development to delivery teams.
21. Work collaboratively with support teams to ensure an outstanding student experience.
22. Provide professional challenge and contributions to the assessment and panel process.
23. Ensure continued development of innovative study programmes that meet the needs of employers and students.
24. Ensure that curriculum areas and their managers have support with effective assessment.
