We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Monitoring Field Officer to join our Field Monitoring team. This is a challenging and busy role working in the office and the field.
You’ll carry out a supervisory role where you will support the Line Manager and provide day to day technical, operational advice and guidance to the field team to ensure the delivery of our monitoring programmes.
You will work closely with National and Area teams and will be responsible for planning and scheduling monitoring programmes to ensure maximum efficiency. You will lead on maintaining, inputting and interpreting routine data on key systems.
The work is varied and you will be required to collect environmental samples from rivers, boreholes, boats, coastal waters and commercial businesses.
The job involves driving, lifting and carrying samples and equipment, working in and near water. You will be required to follow operational guidance and follow current Health and Safety procedures.
You will be responsible for your own health, safety and wellbeing, developing a positive HSW culture for the Monitoring Field Teams.
The role leads on training and mentoring within the Monitoring Field teams and coordinates the delivery of monitoring required for incident response and projects.
The team
The Wessex Team is dispersed and covers Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and the Bristol Area.
We work from the office location could be Bridgwater or Blandford, the candidate is expected to work across all areas of the Wessex patch.
We plan, schedule and collect field-based samples for local, national needs and statutory requirements. The samples collected provide key data for multiple teams. We are responsible for several depots and kit and equipment stored there.
Experience/skills required
We’re seeking candidates who are happy to work in an office environment in a supervisory role and can work in the field in all weathers and environments.
A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.

• A motivated, organised, friendly and helpful person with an eye for detail, who is comfortable working in a dispersed team environment.
• Experience in training and mentoring others.
• Good level of literacy and numeracy skills.
• Able to deal with customers tactfully and effectively.
• Experience of using standard IT packages and specialised systems such as Salesforce, CLICK, WIMS, Midas, RouteLIMS would be advantage.
• Experience of Fish Surveys would be an advantage.
• Ability to undertake data entry and data interpretation.
• Leadership skills.
• Field experience, including working in water.
• HSW experience, including risk assessments.
