Role: Interim Head of Legal, Risk and Data Protection

Remuneration: £71k-£84k FTC
Days: 4 or 5dpw
Location: Hybrid, 2 days on-site
This role is for a leading botanical charity based in the South of England. Reporting to the Director of Resources, the Interim Head of Legal will lead the Legal, Data Protection and Business Risk and Insurance functions (6 staff), working closely with the Executive Board and Heads of Departments to support in delivery of its 10-year Manifesto for Change. This includes supporting the development of new income streams, including commercialisation where appropriate. This role will act as a senior manager in the Directorate as well as directly supporting and deputising for the Director of Resources.
Job Purpose:
• Leading the Legal, Data Protection, Business Risk and Insurance functions
• Providing authoritative legal advice to enable the organisation to achieve its objectives, manage risk and comply with its legal obligations
• Applying own significant depth of legal and sector expertise with strategic insight and commercial acumen to facilitate and influence strategic and operational decision making by others.
Ideal candidate:
* Qualified solicitor (England & Wales – or holding comparable qualifications) with proven significant depth and breadth of relevant legal experience including advising on English Law.
* Experience as an in-house lawyer
* Experience of leading a Legal function, accountable for defining the framework within which the Legal function operates and the planning and delivery of the departments business objectives
* Experience of leading in a complex, fast moving, multi stakeholder environment
* First class experience of drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and assisting in the strategic development and negotiation of the underlying commercial model and terms.
* Sound working knowledge of charity law, good governance and Company Secretarial experience ideally within a charity environment
* Sound working knowledge of intellectual property law and IP exploitation particularly data, know-how and trademarks.
* Experience in influencing and taking the lead in the design and delivery of effective assurance frameworks
* Experience in managing insurance and business risk functions
* Sound working knowledge of Data Protection law
