YMCA Brighton are hiring a Night Project Worker to join their team at William Collier House, based Brighton, East Sussex.

Hours: 10 hours per shift – 4 Nights on/ 4 Nights off – 9 pm – 7 am

Week 1 – 9 pm – 7 am Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (Off Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon)
Week 2 – 9 pm – 7 am Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (Off Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues)
As part of your shift rotation, you will also be required to cover bank holidays should your shift fall on one of these dates.
The position involves joint working alongside another Night Project Worker, with contact support from the on-call service and the sleep-in member of staff, this provision is active throughout the shift.

Overview of the role:
The Night Project Worker is a vital role within our services. The Night Project Worker will jointly work with other Night Project Workers to oversee the safety and security of the building and its clients. You will be required to assist clients throughout the night with any enquiries, needs or challenging situations that may arise for them during the night hours. This is to ensure their health and well-being needs are being met. The post requires administrative duties to ensure that we operate seamlessly across a 24hr period.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide a friendly and professional front-of-house welcome to residents, visitors and staff, ensuring the building is safe, secure, quiet and welcoming.
2. Maximise the well-being of residents and visitors by ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols and house rules, all within the terms of tenancy agreements.
3. Assess and monitor the risks presented by residents to ensure they can keep themselves safe and, where possible, continue their development.
4. Record all incidents and accidents and share them appropriately with the wider team, and, if necessary, the safeguarding team.
5. Regularly check the communal areas and address any instances of potential or actual anti-social behaviour promptly in conjunction with your colleague.
6. Deal effectively with non-compliance issues, such as anti-social behaviour/damage, and de-escalate any instances of threatening, aggressive or violent behaviour by using restorative practice.
7. Provide a professional and compassionate response at times of crisis and liaise promptly with emergency services and other members of staff e.g., ‘on-call’ manager, as required.
8. Report all issues in accordance with policy and procedures, and complete an effective handover with the day staff.
9. Welcome residents’ homes and provide informal and responsive support so they can articulate their needs and respond appropriately detailing where you cannot provide a response and what action you will take.
10. Ensure residents’ views, aspirations, concerns, and ideas are sought so they can play an active role in influencing the services they receive.
11. Proactively promote the services on offer and ensure residents are encouraged to engage with those services.
12. Contribute to, or lead, evening group work activities targeted to tenancy sustainment so that residents can access tailored solutions that meet their needs, wishes and aspirations.
13. Undertake tasks as directed, including but not limited to:
* Inputting data, assessments, reviews, interviews, and case notes onto B Think (client database).
* Completing health and safety/compliance checks, and recording estate inspections and room checks.
* Logging maintenance requests as required.
* Maintaining resident noticeboards, including creating posters and memos.
* Tidying communal areas.
* Setting up a breakfast club.
* Answering the telephone from residents and staff in other 24-hour projects.
* Occasional cleaning of empty rooms (where requested).
* Reviewing CCTV and copying footage when requested.
* Compile statistical data required by the Manager within the format requested.
* Other tasks as deemed appropriate by your line manager and within the remit of your role.

Experience
Essential
* Basic understanding of the support needs of adults at risk.
* Good knowledge of safeguarding procedures in relation to young people and/or vulnerable adults, and the ability to supervise and provide guidance to team members around professional boundaries.
* Understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion with experience of embedding good practice within services.
Desirable
* Experience of working in supported housing, or similar services for adults at risk, delivering objectives and targets.
* Prior experience of night work/unsociable hours.
* Understanding of the impact of trauma on others, and the ability to work with a strengths-based approach with people who may be in distress.
* Demonstrated confidence and competence in recording notes/actions in service log, incident forms and Health and Safety checklists.
Skills and Abilities
Essential
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, internal & external.
* Ability to successfully manage challenging situations whilst remaining calm and solution-focused.
* Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing for appropriate record keeping (vital for handover to colleagues working day shifts).
* Excellent record-keeping and report-writing skills to evidence team performance.
* IT skills, including proficiency in using MS Office 365 package, health & safety, and client data management systems (training provided).
* Ability to work alone, and use own initiative, as well as being part of a team.
