Job summary
The Paediatric team at HHFT are looking to appoint a locum consultant paediatrician to support acute general paediatrics, neonatal care, and outpatients. We are a friendly, dynamic department and offer excellent clinical experience in a supported environment within a lovely part of the country.
Currently we have a vacancy to cover sick leave for the next 4 months. This post will be based in BNHH, Basingstoke although we are one department across the two sites.
Main duties of the job
On calls at consultant level will involve covering the general paediatric ward and admissions, level 1 +neonatal unit, labour ward and transitional care. The post may also include a small number of resident night post would suit a recently qualified consultant as a step up to consultant working in our supportive department.
We operate a consultant of the week system, in addition to outpatients and a separate safeguarding session which is split equally amongst the team. There will be time within the individual's job plan to pursue other specialist interests.

Who we are: Our Paediatric teams are responsible for: -
Inpatient wards: - G2 in Basingstoke has 28 inpatient beds. We provide inpatient care for a range of specialties including medical, surgical, ENT and orthopaedic admissions.
Paediatric Assessment Units (PAU), BNHH - Charlie's Day Unit: The assessment unit is adjacent to the main paediatric ward. Local GPs have immediate access to an expert Paediatric opinion on any child requiring urgent assessment. Children referred for a paediatric opinion from Accident & Emergency are also seen in the PAU.
Outpatients: There is a dedicated paediatric outpatient area adjacent to each paediatric ward with over 8000 attendances each year. There are daily general paediatric clinics, special interest clinics plus visiting specialist clinics in cardiology, neurology, nephrology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, cystic fibrosis, and surgery.
Neonatal Care: Level 2 neonatal intensive care is provided as part of the South Central Neonatal Department has close links for tertiary services with the University Hospital Southampton and joint clinics with colleagues are held in the following specialties, surgery, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, nephrology, gastroenterology and rheumatology.

Professional Qualifications
Essential
1. MRCPCH or equivalent
2. CCT Paediatrics or within 6 months of CCT or equivalent
3. On the GMC Specialist Register for Paediatrics
Desirable
4. Post graduate qualification in child health or related subjects, education or quality improvement
Clinical Experience & Knowledge
Essential
5. Broad training in General Paediatrics
6. Level 3 Neonatal Experience and Training
7. Training in developmental and community paediatrics appropriate for a General Paediatrician.
8. Safeguarding training and experience
9. Up to date APLS/ NLS
Desirable
10. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the challenges of management.
11. Demonstrate an interest in education and teaching
