Central London, Cheltenham
Location: Please note, both are London-based roles, but the MI6 role will initially be based in Cheltenham for up to two years.
Flexible working: Both roles are office-based. 36 hours a week full-time for MI5 and 37 hours a week full-time for MI6. We are unable to accommodate flexible working during the training period; however, after that time, flexible working may be available subject to business need.
MI5 and MI6 are part of the UK’s Intelligence Services. We work together to safeguard Britain’s people, interests, and businesses from various threats at home, overseas, and online, including cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. Working across our vital missions, you’ll deliver impact at the heart of national security, all within a supportive and inclusive environment that allows everyone to thrive.
Can you see yourself finding the patterns inside puzzles? How about influencing our investigations? On our Intelligence and Data Analyst Development Programmes, you’ll learn how to turn raw data into information that keeps the UK safe. So, if you can see yourself working in data - register your interest in these opportunities today.
If you apply to work at MI5, you’ll be based in London. The MI6 role is also London-based, but you’ll be in Cheltenham for the first two years. Please note that you may not apply for both organisations.
Depending on which organisation you pick, the role may differ slightly. One thing’s for sure – wherever you’re based, you’ll play a vital role as part of an analysis team turning raw data into intelligence to help keep the country safe. You’ll use skills gained on our varied training programmes that’ll help you make sense of information we gather from a range of sources. And, you’ll come up with creative solutions by making connections, identifying trends, and solving key questions in our investigations.
At MI5, you’ll do an initial four-month training period before taking on your first analysis posting. Surrounded by a supportive team, you’ll develop your skills and put your knowledge into practice. Once your training is complete, you’ll be committed to working as an analyst for the next five years, during which time you’ll have three further analyst postings.
At MI6, you’ll complete an initial induction before joining a multi-agency analyst team. You’ll spend the first six months enjoying a mix of classroom training and on-the-job learning, alongside your cohort and your new colleagues. Once the training has finished, you’ll spend the remainder of your time on the programme enhancing your knowledge and continuing to develop your skills – after which you’ll have the opportunity to apply for roles in London, Cheltenham, or abroad to continue your career in analysis.
There’s no ‘type’ of person who works in data. Your curiosity, determination, and genuine passion will be valued and encouraged by the friendly team around you. You’ll work in close partnership with Intelligence Officers, passing on your new-found intelligence and drawing on each other’s expertise. Ours is a truly collaborative culture where your input will be valued. Working together, you’ll see the impact of your work every day - all whilst building a truly rewarding career.
