High Street Surgery, Cheslyn Hay, is looking for a motivated Medical Secretary to join our team for approximately 15 hours per week.
We are looking for an efficient and enthusiastic individual who is self-motivated and able to work on their own initiative to join our friendly team. The post holder will work with our current secretary to provide an efficient service to the practice and its patients.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role is to:
1. Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
2. Receive, assist, and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, and effective way.
3. Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team.
4. Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary healthcare team, secondary care, and other associated healthcare agencies.
5. Provide an efficient audio, copy typing, and word processing service for GPs and health professionals as required. This includes typing letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes, memorandums, etc., and processing patient referrals via the e-referral system.
The post holder must have excellent communication skills and ideally be familiar with Emis and Docman computer systems. There will be a requirement to perform general administration duties and the successful applicant will be able to multi-task and prioritize workload. A knowledge of medical terminology would be advantageous although full training will be provided. The salary will be negotiable dependent on experience.

Our practice is based in the semi-rural area of Cheslyn Hay, with a branch practice in neighbouring Great Wyrley, on the Staffordshire/West Midlands border. We are a busy practice, providing care to a population of 7,500 patients across two sites, with a friendly, caring, and efficient team of clinicians and support staff.
