PhD studentship in Cyber-Physical Resilience for Power Systems (UK Home Student)
2 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants
Project Description
The electric power grid has been undergoing a significant transformation, moving towards modernization and integration of renewable energy resources, with a particular focus on distributed energy resources (DERs) and the adoption of demand-side flexibility services (FS). However, their integration into the power grid presents several challenges related to their intermittent and fluctuating nature, as well as cyber security threats due to the communication interfaces involved in their integration. The project will investigate cyber security threats arising out of the changing nature of power grids and devise solutions to improve cyber resilience.
Qualifications
The candidate is expected to have an MSc in Electrical Engineering or computer science discipline with experience in one of the following topics:
1. Power grid security/optimization/energy markets
2. Application of machine learning to power grids/cyber-physical systems
3. Knowledge of networking, cyber security and operational technology (OT) systems
4. Experience of working with power grid simulators such as Digsilent Power Factory or PSCAD
Due to funding restrictions, the studentship is only available to UK home students.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with industrial/academic project partners, and publish their research results at top IEEE journals, international conferences and workshops.
