The Role
University Hospital Wishaw is recruiting two band 7 pharmacist posts to enhance the clinical team providing services within Medicine / acute medical receiving. The post holders will become an integrated member of the consultant-led multidisciplinary team, attending ward rounds, contributing to prescribing decisions and providing direct patient care to patients admitted to acute and downstream medicine. Specialities include cardiology, respiratory, endocrine and gastroenterology. Working alongside the technical team who provide support with drug history taking, patient education and medication supply issues you will fully utilise your clinical reasoning and judgement / prescribing skills, possess excellent communication skills and be involved in teaching tutoring and mentoring junior staff and students.
There will be a focus on ensuring safe, effective and person-centred use of medicines at the interface during and throughout admission as well as undertaking quality improvement initiatives to improve practice.
Experience working within the acute hospital setting is required and you will be supported to undertake and qualify as a pharmacist independent prescriber if not already practising at this level.

What we'll need you to bring
Masters of Pharmacy Degree
Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Continuing Professional Development as detailed by the General Pharmaceutical Council (mandatory requirement)
Relevant post registration experience in hospital pharmacy
Postgraduate training and professional development in clinical pharmacy practice e.g. Stage II Scottish Vocational Training / 1st year clinical diploma
Demonstrable experience in providing a clinical pharmacy service to a defined patient group.
Experience in patient information/education
Experience in supervising staff
Ability to effectively monitor patients therapeutic regimens in order to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity
Clinical pharmacy / care planning
Good verbal and written communication skills
Self motivation
Ability to work effectively as part of a team, in a pharmacy and multi-disciplinary environment
Proven project / practice research/ audit skills
Participation in weekend and public holiday working
Participation in pharmacy emergency duty service (if appropriate)
Willingness to contribute to the general working of the pharmacy department.

This role will be based in Pharmacy within University Hospital Wishaw.
The working pattern for this role Mon-Fri; 9:00-5:00.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
