Locum Healthcare Assistants - Hospice Care

£13-£16 per hour
2-3+ shifts per week, including nights and weekends
• Earlies: 07:30-15:00
• Lates: 12:30-20:00
• Long Days: 07:30-20:00
• Nights: 19:30-08:00
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistants to join a hospice care team based in Colchester, Essex on a locum basis. As a Healthcare Assistant in the hospice, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with life-limiting illnesses. You will offer support to both patients and their families, ensuring comfort and dignity in a safe, supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide personal care and support to patients in accordance with care plans, including assistance with mobility, dressing, personal hygiene, and feeding.
• Assist with the administration of medication as prescribed and in accordance with the hospice's policies.
• Monitor and record patient vital signs, symptoms, and behaviors, reporting any changes to the senior care team.
• Offer emotional and psychological support to patients and their families during challenging times.
• Assist with the preparation and serving of meals and drinks, ensuring nutritional needs are met.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, adhering to infection control and health & safety standards.
• Help with recreational and therapeutic activities to improve patient well-being and comfort.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure holistic care is provided.
• Participate in ongoing training and development to stay updated on best practices in hospice and palliative care.
Skills and Qualifications
• Previous experience in a healthcare assistant role, ideally in a hospice or palliative care setting.
• A caring and compassionate nature, with the ability to provide emotional support.
• Ability to work well within a team and independently, with strong communication skills.
• Understanding of end-of-life care and an empathetic approach to patients and families.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) preferred, but not essential.
• Willingness to undergo further training and development.
• Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and evenings, as required
