An opportunity has become available to join Ruskin Mill College, Ruskin Mill Trust, as part of the committed team focusing on the holistic needs of the students. We are looking for people with great character and a desire to make a positive impact on young people’s lives, and to provide students with support and guidance to help them engage in timetabled sessions in a safe and appropriate way.
We are seeking to appoint a Fish Farm Tutor to offer specific and specialist educational support in the delivery of a therapeutic education program to a number of students using methods in line with the Trust’s principles. The post holder will be expected to embrace, articulate and work with the Trust’s objectives, vision, values, purpose and method, ensuring that the Trust’s paradigm of biodynamic agriculture, Anthroposophical medicine and practical skills education, which is informed by Steiner Education, is maintained, implemented and integrated.
No qualifications necessary as on-the-job training will be provided.
Main Duties:
1. To work closely with the Fish Farm Manager in sessions to progress students towards their short, medium, and long-term outcomes;
2. To assist and stand in at times for the Fish Farm Manager to manage the day-to-day running of the fish farm and fish processing and to create an appropriate learning environment to support the learning and development needs of individual students as well as groups of students.
3. To be responsible for delivering teaching and training with a therapeutic and supportive approach, wherever possible linking students' learning activities through a methodology of the Trust, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education.
4. To communicate consistently and effectively with all the relevant teams throughout the provision in order to contribute to each student’s study programme, curriculum and progression towards outcomes.
5. To ensure that session planning and the development of schemes of work (SOWs) embed the interconnectedness of their craft within the provision as well as the social enterprise.
6. To take an active role in maintaining, improving, and understanding the Fish Farm biodynamic organism including the flow forms and our fish farming methods.
7. To instil enthusiasm and enjoyment into the learning process in such a way that can lead to increased self-esteem and enhanced engagement in learning.
Working at Ruskin Mill Trust is incredibly rewarding; we offer competitive salaries and holiday allowances, an auto-enrolment pension scheme with a salary sacrifice option, a health cash plan, and an employee assistance programme via Medicash.
In addition, staff receive valuable training opportunities including an in-depth interactive induction to enable our new team members to experience our Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) curriculum and also opportunities for further training and academic research including our own MSc in Practical Skills Therapeutic Education.
