An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and dedicated pharmacist to take on this newly created role in Multiple Sclerosis and as Pharmacy Lead for the Neurology Day Case Unit at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.
The primary role of this specialist post is to lead on the management and provision of a comprehensive, high quality pharmacy service for to the Neurology Day Case Unit, as well as being the specialist pharmacist for Multiple Sclerosis and leading on the provision of care for those patients within the organisation.
This post holder will be an integral part of the Pharmacy Neurology team and work closely with our Senior Neurology and Stroke pharmacists and as such will have a responsibility within that wider team.

The post holder will:
• Work within the wider Neurology Multidisciplinary Team to support clinics for Multiple Sclerosis patients. This will include utilising (or working towards) an Independent Prescribing qualification to provide pharmaceutical care for those patients.
• Lead on the provision of medicines for Neurology Day Case Unit including all aspects of medicines management for that clinical area.
• Work within the pharmacy team for Neurology, Neurosurgery and Stroke, and as such will have a responsibility within that wider team. This will include providing cross-cover, as well as organising and delivering pharmacy related care to all these patients Trust wide and support the directorate(s) as needed.

Post-Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Developand provide acomprehensive clinicalpharmacy serviceforthepatientsin yourareasat UHCW NHS Trust and attend multidisciplinary team meetings as required.
• Providestrategicguidanceonclinicalpharmacyissuesrelatingtoyourareasandoffer professional pharmacy leadership in this area of care.
• Proactively influence safeandcost-effectivedrugtherapy with otherseniorclinical staff within yourareas. Thiswillincludenewdrugevaluations,financialreporting,and thedevelopmentofpolicies.
• Identifyareaswhereimprovementsinboth thequalityandcost-effectivenessof pharmaceutical care and prescribing can be encouraged.
• Work with senior staff in your areas to reviewand develop policies and procedures to ensure the safe and effective handling of medications. Ensure policies and procedures comply with existing legal requirements, best practice, national and local guidelines, and Health Care Commission requirements.Undertakeriskmanagementanddevelopauditsrelatedtothesupply,storage,and administration of medicines and other pharmaceuticals.
• Lead,develop,anddelivereducationandtraininginthepharmaceuticalaspectsof yourareasto other healthcare professionals. This will include trainee pharmacists and diploma students. Encourage and cultivate an environment of clinical and practice-based research and audit. Contribute to current and future research and audit projects associated with the use of drugs within your areas.
• Manageandtrainmore juniorrotationalstaffallocated to yourareas, includingaspectsof day-to- day line management, and act as a diploma tutor/trainee designated supervisor as needed. Act as a team leader for the clinical pharmacy team in your area (e.g., as group/directorate lead).
• Practise as an expert practitioner, providing advice and consultancy to patients, healthcare professionals, and other agencies relating to the pharmaceutical aspects of multiple sclerosis and general neurologypracticeinyourareas.Thisincludeshavingagoodworkingknowledgeofneurology, neurosurgery and stroke.
• Participate as part of the MDT on consultant ward rounds, and work towards supporting prescribingonthewardasanindependentprescriberaccordingtoyourscopeofpractice
