Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and hardworking team of paediatric orthopaedic surgeons in a substantive role to support the expansion of the paediatric orthopaedic team to meet increasing demand. You will be joining a group of four established Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants.
UHNM Children’s Hospital provides secondary level paediatric orthopaedic services to the children and young people of North Midlands, and tertiary care to those in the wider region and beyond. In addition, we support the care of children with complex health needs, working closely with colleagues from other specialties. UHNM is a Major Trauma Centre that serves the population of Staffordshire, Shropshire, South Cheshire and North Wales.
The post holder will be based at the Royal Stoke Hospital but may be requested to hold regular elective clinics at County Hospital, Stafford. The Royal Stoke Hospital has a dedicated Surgical Children’s Ward (217), PICU and Children’s theatres.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking fellowship trained candidates well versed in the generality of Paediatric Orthopaedics and Paediatric Orthopaedic Trauma. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to a 1:10 major trauma on call rota.
The Directorate works closely with the prestigious Keele Medical School and there will be an opportunity for the post holder to contribute to medical student teaching. We also have a vast network of allied health professionals.
The post holder will be expected to take an appropriate share in the management and administrative workload of the Department. All Consultants are involved in planning and developing the service.

* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP) – proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview CESR or European Community Rights
Clinical Experience & Training
* Extensive experience in managing paediatric orthopaedic patients as part of a major trauma service
* Evidence of completion of approved fellowship training in the appropriate sub specialty
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
* Candidates must have experience in the management of elective paediatric orthopaedic surgery
* ATLS/European Trauma/ or equivalent Trauma Course in last four years
* Evidence of managing independent operating lists / Previous experience at Consultant or Fellow level
Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working
* Experience of post graduate and undergraduate teaching and training at an appropriate level
* Demonstrable ability to work as a key member of a team and lead the team when necessary
* Experience of supervising specialist / core and foundation trainees
