I am working closely with the Headteacher of a specialist provision based in Burnley area. The school is an inclusive school who supports children with SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health)
and ensure that they encourage all children to meet their full potential. The school are looking for someone who will be passionate about motivating students to overcome barriers that they face; allowing them to have a brighter future.
What does a behaviour support entail?
A Behaviour Support assistant will support children as instructed by the class teacher. As the children in the school have SEMH they will follow EHCPs (Educational Health Care Plans) that have been put into place; they may need to differentiate your approach to meet the needs of the child. The behaviour support with encourage children to reach their full potential and provide ongoing motivation to ensure this. It will involve building and maintaining positive relationships with the children and adults in the classroom to provide a safe environment for learning and for the children to build confidence. The behaviour support will need to approach situations in a calmy manner and often provide strategies to deal with high pressure situations.
As these can be challenging environments to be successful you would ideally have experience in this sector and have worked with challenging individuals however this doesn’t necessarily have to be in a school setting and can be from care, residential, youth work, prison service, sports coaching etc!
Do I meet the success criteria to be a behaviour support?
- Calm
- Patient
- Nurturing
- Resilient
- Reflective
- Great communication skills
- Approachable
- Experience of working with children (School based experience not essential)
