We are looking to appoint a practice nurse for 24 hours per week over three days. As a member of the nursing team your input to our practice team and our patients will be important. You will be integral to the delivery of high-quality patient care for our patients.
Candidates must be flexible as additional hours may be required to cover annual leave for other members of the team.
Main duties of the job
You would be part of a team of Practice Nurses and undertake all aspects of the practice nurse role including cervical screening, baby immunisations and chronic disease management.

We are a friendly and supportive practice in the heart of Royston.
We have a clinical team of 3 GP partners, 2 nurses and a phlebotomist. You will also be fully supported by the practice manager, assistant practice manager and 8 members of the admin/reception team.
We are also supported by a community midwife, clinical pharmacist and a prescribing technician.
Job responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
1. Chronic Disease Management: Provide comprehensive care and management for chronic conditions such as asthma, COPD, and diabetes, including regular monitoring, patient education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to optimise patient outcomes.
2. Travel Health: Deliver a holistic approach to travel health by advising patients on vaccinations and safe practices.
3. Vaccinations: Administer childhood and adult vaccinations as per patient group directions.
4. Well Person Clinics & Health Promotion: Offer lifestyle assessments and advice on diet, smoking cessation, alcohol reduction, and physical activity.
5. Baby Clinic Care: Administer vaccinations.
6. Cervical Cytology: Conduct cervical cytology smear tests according to guidelines.
7. Venepuncture: Carry out venepuncture procedures following local protocols.
8. Wound Management: Provide a holistic approach to wound management.
9. Contraception Services: Provide advice and administer contraception options.
10. Suture Removal: Safely and efficiently remove sutures.
11. Safeguarding: Maintain awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures.
Health & Safety and Compliance:
1. Sharps and Waste Disposal: Safely manage the disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
2. Infection Control: Follow infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections.
3. Emergency Management: Recognise and manage anaphylaxis and perform CPR as required.
4. Health & Safety Protocols: Follow established procedures for handling body fluid spills.
Administrative Responsibilities:
1. Informed Consent: Obtain and document informed consent.
2. Stock and Equipment Management: Monitor and manage the maintenance of stock and equipment.
3. Vaccine Management: Ensure effective management of vaccine storage.
4. Confidentiality: Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.
5. Documentation: Ensure all consultations are documented according to guidelines.
6. Guideline Adherence: Apply national and local health guidelines to patient care.
Additional Responsibilities: Undertake any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
