CY Executive are seeking a motivated and experienced Financial Controller within the charity/non-profit sector to lead the financial accounting function within our client’s organisation. Working closely with the Head of Finance, this pivotal role will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of year-end statutory accounts, regulatory returns, and ensuring robust financial controls across accounts payable, receivable, balance sheets, and investments. A key focus of this role will be managing and developing a small financial team to meet deadlines and deliver exceptional results. Key Responsibilities: Lead and motivate a small team of financial professionals, fostering a positive and high-performance culture. Take responsibility for the preparation and accuracy of year-end statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS, and charity SORP. Oversee the preparation and reconciliation of Nominal, Sales, and Purchase Ledgers monthly, ensuring proper debtor controls and accurate ledger updates through to the trial balance stage. Manage payroll processing, ensuring tax, national insurance, and pension contributions are correctly accounted for, and ensure year-end data files are cleared for the new tax year. Coordinate the annual audit of accounts, liaising with external auditors where required Ensure the organisation meets all statutory obligations, including timely completion of VAT returns, HMRC filings, pensions, and other periodical payments. Develop and maintain the cash flow forecasting and monitoring system to provide valuable insights into the organisation's financial health and long-term cash balances. Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Skills and Abilities: Proven leadership experience in managing and developing a financial accounting team, ensuring high performance and effective workload management. Knowledge and hands-on experience with year-end statutory accounting processes, and a proven track record of delivering accurate and compliant accounts under UK GAAP, IFRS, and charity SORP. Strong understanding of VAT in a partially exempt environment and financial accounting principles and practices. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement and process efficiency. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and HMRC. Proficiency in finance systems and IT, with a focus on process improvement, system implementations, and delivering efficient, user-friendly financial solutions. Qualifications: Fully qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA preferred; Part-Qualified candidates with relevant experience and strong Excel & IT skills will also be considered.
