Writer (FTC)
Dambuster Studios - creators of the number one BAFTA-nominated smash hit Dead Island 2 - has an exciting opportunity for a Writer to join our highly talented Narrative team on a fixed-term contract.
Role Overview
Working closely with the Principal Writer and Narrative team, you will develop gripping stories, create memorable characters, write powerful cutscenes and dialogue, create enthralling worldbuilding and contextualise game mechanics. We’re looking for someone who’s collaborative and easy to talk to, and who can relay ideas to a wide audience.
Please Note
* This is a fixed-term contract, due to conclude December 2026.
* This role is being offered on an in-studio, hybrid or remote basis and will require the successful applicant to be able to attend the studio on a regular basis.
* If we receive a high number of suitable applicants, we reserve the right to close the role sooner than anticipated.

Responsibilities
* Developing stories that work effectively within the constraints of the game, genre, theme and tone.
* Collaborating within Writers’ Rooms.
* Writing cinematic scripts, gameplay dialogue and text.
* Working with other departments to create compelling quests.
* Mentoring more junior writers.
* Reviewing and editing written content.
* Maintaining narrative documentation.
Requirements
* 3+ years’ experience as a professional writer, preferably in gaming, film or TV.
* Familiarity with narrative structures, story design, character design, and screenwriting.
* Exceptional writing talent, always aiming for originality.
* The ability to write to a brief, take on board feedback and continually hone and improve your writing.
* The ability to adopt a specific writing tone.
* The ability to create moments of situational humour.
* The ability to adapt and rework stories and scenes due to changing requirements.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other departments.
* The ability to work closely with other writers to implement a shared vision while adding your own creative touches.
* The ability to give insightful but sensitive feedback on the work of others and mentor more junior writers.
* The ability to write quickly and to a deadline, on multiple tasks at once.
