Job summary We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse who has a keen interest in developing their skills in Oncology and Haematology to join cancer services at Torbay Hospital. Preferably the successful applicant will have a recognised SACT administration training qualification. If you are not trained in SACT, but are willing to undergo training, you may still apply. You will be expected to provide a high standard of care for cancer patients, this will include delivering the safe administration of anticancer and supportive treatments, whilst working flexibly across Turner Ward our specialist inpatient ward and the Ricky Grant Day Unit our purpose built 15-chair Chemotherapy Day Unit. This may involve a range of shift patterns which will include days, evenings, weekends, and rotation to night duty. You will be required to inform and educate patients on the prescribed treatment and its side effects and support patients and their carers on all aspects of their care, be they newly diagnosed or being treated with palliative intent. Once trained this role would include co-ordinating and supervising a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients. Main duties of the job To work on Ricky Grant Day Unit and Turner Ward as a Sister/Charge Nurse within a team responsible for the care of patients admitted as a result of their cancer diagnosis or side effects of their treatment and for the administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) in the nurse led Day Unit setting To be in charge of the ward/unit team responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of patient care. You will be working closely with other professional colleagues to ensure that consistently high standards and quality of care for patients are maintained and that the patient's needs are met To improve practice by continuous professional development. You will gain a broad spectrum of clinical proficiency to deliver SACT To conform to COSHH and Health and Safety regulations whilst dealing with cytotoxic drugs ensuring a safe working environment To provide clinical advice, training, education and support to patients, relatives and other professional colleagues To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carer's, visitors and staff and to comply with the Trust and relevant network policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols, values and expected behaviours About us One of the most rewarding parts of being an SACT nurse caring for patients undergoing treatment for a cancer diagnosis is that you are part of their strongest support system and you often have long term, ongoing contact with them and their relatives.
