Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
We are looking to employ a Civil Engineering Apprentice as part of our Infrastructure Design Team working towards a Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship BEng (Hons) at the University of Portsmouth.
As an apprentice, you will work alongside other apprentices on the same course and experienced staff gaining valuable hands-on experience whilst studying for a Level 6 qualification in Civil Engineering.
Your day-to-day work will include:
● Use of industry standard software such as AutoCAD
● Developing technical highway and drainage designs to support planning applications and the detailed design stage
● Assisting with the preparation of technical reports, including Flood Risk Assessments, Sustainable Drainage and Foul Water Technical Notes
● Undertaking technical assessments for new developments
● Liaison with third parties and Statutory Undertakers to support projects
● Helping ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, design guides and regulations
● Generally supporting the team to deliver projects on time and budget

* Apply civil engineering techniques, procedures and methods, and review and evaluate the results, including measuring and testing, designing, installing, commissioning, constructing, maintaining or operating civil engineering components and systems; consider how continuous improvement can contribute to improved performance.
* Employ mathematical, statistical and data interpretation tools, using analytical and computational methods, and apply an integrated or systems-based approach.

Your training plan
You will spend 1 day a week on day release at university and 4 days in the workplace where you will receive on the job training and ongoing support as part of a friendly and enthusiastic team, keen to get you involved from the day you start.

You will be required to apply to the University of Portsmouth who must confirm your suitability for the apprenticeship course before any final offer of employment is made. You will be required to hold a full UK driving license so you can reliably commute to the office and University and attend site visits when required.
