Pearson Whiffin Recruitment are delighted to be working exclusively with an innovative, award winning technical hire business with multi-sector reach in their search for an ambitious Operations Manager to run the main HQ depot based in the Birmingham area.

This business-critical role requires an exceptional leader, with the ability to negotiate a range of personalities to maximise performance across the team, working collaboratively to facilitate the success of the commercial side of the business with a view to growth.
Reporting into the Managing Director, the successful candidate will:
Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of a fast paced hire depot, managing field based and static staff across engineering, warehousing and administrative functions to ensure seamless service delivery
Implement operational best practice and review and implement health and safety practices.
Manage a team of 9 initially, growing the team organically. Effective team leadership and communication is essential- managing, monitoring, and coaching engineers by being in regular contact and ensuring that information is clearly communicated throughout the division.
Create an environment that motivates employees, driving a culture of collaboration and a positive, solutions led approach and accountability ensuring that they are fully aware of what is expected of them, and recognise their successes.
Develop any areas of weakness
Ensure operational processes are focused on maximising commercial success and continuous improvement
Show confidence and aptitude in making commercial decisions and offer innovative, creative suggestions for business improvements to the SLT
Keep a cool, calm head under pressure and be able to react swiftly, adapting to an ever-changing environment
Share the company’s quality, customer-centric values around service delivery
Be able to spot problems before they arise, and juggle multiple priorities in an efficient, organised and methodical manner
Assimilate technical information with ease and clearly communicate with a range of stakeholders
Lead by example, consistently maintaining high standards, working to exceed targets and supporting the sales team
Oversee inventory control processes, including receiving, storage, and PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection and testing) of hire equipment and supplies.
be responsible for strategic and operational aspects of production, planning, engineering, warehousing, despatch, and procurement.
support in recruiting engineers, including the implementation of coaching and development plans to ensure project installations are delivered on time, to a quality standard and with the most cost effective use of Rapid Energy’s resources.
To be considered for this fast-paced role, you will:
Have a proven track record in a relevant depot / operations/ general management role overseeing field-based engineers in a related b2b sector requiring swift reactions
Be able to offer examples of how you have driven performance through your exceptional people management skills
Communicate well and be able to quickly adapt your approach dependent on the audience
Be commercially minded, keen to work collaboratively with sales functions and able to proactively identify and mitigate obstacles to revenue growth
Hold yourself accountable both personally and professionally, inspiring direct reports to do the same
Be flexible, reliable and adaptable, with a career focused mind-set
Use technology and data effectively to inform commercial and operational decisions
Have a meticulous attention to detail, with an understanding of the importance of accurate and timely communication and reporting
Be numerate with a good head for figures and a logical approach
Experience within an equipment leasing environment would be an advantage, but other technical, contract service or turnkey solution-based businesses would be considered
