Job Title: Senior Automotive Mechanic
The City of Coral Gables, Florida, The City Beautiful, is seeking a highly qualified professional inspired by the challenges of an established, dynamic community for the position of Senior Automotive Mechanic. Coral Gables operates under a commission/manager form of government and is well known for its active and involved citizenry. The Senior Automotive Mechanic performs skilled preventative maintenance and repairs on automobiles, trucks, boats, construction and heavy equipment, as well as emergency vehicles for the City of Coral Gables. Work is assigned, reviewed by inspection, and performed under the direction of a supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Inspect and test vehicles, making visual and operational inspections to diagnose and fix problems affecting gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment.
2. Participate in a wide variety of automotive maintenance and repairs from minor work to complete rebuilding, including minor welding and cutting.
3. Troubleshoot, repair/rebuild, and install diesel and gasoline motors, grind valves, replace and repair main bearings, and troubleshoot and repair transmissions, universal joints, differentials, PTOs, air and hydraulic brakes.
4. Troubleshoot, repair/rebuild, and install hydraulic pumps, motors, controls, and cylinders, PTO, and transfer case.
5. Troubleshoot, repair/rebuild, and install automotive electrical components such as starters, generators, distributors, and voltage regulators.
6. Provide roadside assistance to operators of City vehicles and tow vehicles to the garage as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum six (6) years at the journeyman level in the skilled repair of automotive and construction equipment.
3. ASE certification required.
4. Valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL requirement may be waived for up to 120 days but must be obtained by the end of the 120 days for continued employment, provided the employee has a valid Florida Driver's License).
5. Furnish own tools and repair equipment.
6. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirement.
