Job summary This is a fixed term contract until 30th June 2026 to support an individual who has extensive experience in Cervical cytology and would like the opportunity to develop towards the role of Consultant Biomedical Scientist. This is a 'stand alone' trainee role, not a Consultant BMS role. During your training you would be expected to carry out the role of 'Checker', undertake shadow reporting and attend a rotation of MDTs to gain experience prior to taking the ASD examination in Cervical Cytology. Main duties of the job Undertake the required training programme to acquire the ASD in CytopathologyParticipate in checking of all grades of cervical screening samples, giving appropriate management recommendations - Issue negative and inadequate diagnostic reports - Refer difficult and abnormal cases for a second opinionQuality checking and coding of abnormal reported work returned by Consultant Histopathologists and HPV tested samples, including management action.Support with delegated responsibility when required for the day to day management of the laboratory functions in an effective and efficient way ensuring the department works within the Standard Operating Procedures laid down by Senior ManagementParticipate internally in the education, training and development of departmental clinical, technical and support staff grades and externally in the training of sample takers in the community Participate in CPD, ensuring personal standards of scientific/technical proficiency are maintained to the highest levelsParticipate in both internal and external quality assurance schemes adopted by the department, to include annual EQA assessment and mandatory updates held at an accredited Cytology Training Centre Closing date of advert:24 March 2025 Date of interview:7 April 2025 If you are applying for an Internal Secondment, please ensure you have spoken to your line manager and have their support prior to your application.
