Main Purpose of Job
To inspire, support and assist regional Wildlife and Heritage Service (WHS) staff conducting work projects designed to achieve goals established by the priority objectives set for the unit. This job entails the administration and organization of staff, budgets, capital improvements, lands and equipment in an assigned geographic area to ensure the timely, safe and efficient completion of these work tasks.
POSITION DUTIES
1. Supervise and administer all aspects of WHS Regional Operations program in the Eastern Region.
2. Lead staff fulfillment of regulatory responsibilities, conducting work projects designed to achieve objectives set for the Unit.
3. Supervise staffing, preparation and management of budgets, administration of procurement, and maintenance of capital improvements.
4. Oversee habitat/land management/wildlife technical assistance, and extensive portfolios of land and equipment.
5. Provide input to WHS leadership on legislation, regulations, policies, administrative decisions, and Federal grant administration.
6. Monitor regional readiness/response to wildlife emergencies.
7. Supervise regional land management activities implemented by staff on Wildlife Management Areas (WMA’s).
8. Coordinate staff participation on research/monitoring/management projects.
9. Implement and ensure adherence to all budget, procurement, human resources, inventory, land/property management, and vehicle use policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Four years of professional experience conducting research and analysis in the fields of biology, biochemistry, environmental science, natural resources management, and related fields. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor's degree and six years of experience for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Four years of professional experience must include the supervision of employees performing technical biological work in the field of natural resources management. Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent may be required to respond to emergency calls outside of standard operating hours.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
