We’re excited to offer an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a world leader in laser technology. If you're an experienced engineer with a strong background in mechanical components and design, this role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge technologies that power both existing and future laser systems.
You’ll play a key role in delivering mechanical engineering solutions from the conceptual design, development, qualification, manufacture and long-term supply of advanced assemblies and systems.
Mechanical Design Engineering - key responsibilities and accountabilities:
* Manage a small team of mechanical engineers.
* Interacting with other R & D design disciplines, e.g. laser physicists, electrical and software engineers during the project life cycle.
* Interacting with the mechanical manufacturing & production management and staff, and procurement department.
* To design and develop high precision mechanical mounts, parts and assemblies necessary to develop new or existing laser systems and modules; with specified material use, finishing and manufacturing methods for the designed parts.
* To generate BOMs, build information, generate stock records and collate all necessary information required for ordering and producing the assemblies.
* To test and amend designs of new parts so that a project resolution is reached so that the parts/assemblies can enter production, including any necessary build documentation to accompany the designs.
Mechanical Project Management - key responsibilities and accountabilities:
* Support in the identification, design, development, introduction and validation of new systems and components.
* Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans, conferring with management.
* Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning staff to phases and elements; reviewing bids from contractors.
* Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
* Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.
* Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; co-ordinating activities; resolving problems.
