The Children's ED has been recently relocated and comprises of a minors/majors area, a 3 bedded short stay facility, a modernised resuscitation area and a separate waiting area. We are expecting some estates redevelopment in the near future to improve these facilities. An opportunity now exists for Band 6/7 Paediatric nurses with extensive experience to extend their skills in a Children's ED environment working alongside a varied nursing workforce, Paediatric Emergency Consultants, ENP's and GP's. This is a new post offering flexibility for staff looking for promotion who would like to remain largely clinical whilst gaining experience in non-clinical parts of the organisation and/or the community setting in a hybrid role. Main duties of the job The successful candidate would be working alongside a team of band 7's, all of whom have varying roles and responsibilities within the team to cover the whole seven day service. This post is aimed at providing senior experience within the nursing establishment for clinical shifts with Band 7 staff expected to be IRMER and X-ray trained, rapid triage competent, be able to supply PGD's and be willing to complete training to complete nurse led discharge from triage competencies. Any candidates not fulfilling all of the above requirements would need to work as a Band 6 until competencies are complete. Support would be provided to complete these competencies within three months of starting in post depending on experience. The hybrid aspect of the role could include time spent in any non-clinical area of the trust such as clinical governance, patient experience, patient safety, supporting the PDN's or alternatively in a clinical setting in the community such as the Hospital at Home team. This hybrid role will support the learning from these areas to improve the ED department, whilst allowing the successful candidate to gain experience in non-clinical senior roles. Suggestions will be considered if an applicant has an interest in a particular area. The department encourages and supports professional development and the successful candidate would be able to take advantage of in-house study days required to fulfil the requirements of this post.
