Since the Company was formed in 1978, we have established ourselves as a client-focused building contractor, completing various projects for blue chip and repeat business clients. Whilst our Head Office is based in Ipswich, we operate throughout the UK.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced SHEQ Manager to join us as a Group Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality Manager. If you are passionate about health and safety and ready to take on a rewarding role, we want to hear from you.
Reporting to: Joint Divisional Managing Director
Location: Ipswich Head Office (in person), albeit there will be occasions to attend our other offices, sites and/or client premises.
Contract type: Full time, Permanent
Interfaces with other Departments: Site Team, Leadership Team, HR Department
Schedule: 39 hours per week (Monday – Friday)
Duties and responsibilities:
* To report on all SHEQ matters to the Director with designated responsibility for health and safety within the business and assist him with providing a service to the Divisional Managing Directors for both Barnes Construction and Bower Fuller.
* To assist the board in complying with current health and safety legislation and/or regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and appropriate measures are taken to protect the health and safety of all The Barnes Group Limited employees, contractors and visitors.
* To develop, implement and monitor health and safety policies, procedures and guidance notes.
* To assist in the preparation of SHEQ strategies and developing internal policy.
* To increase health and safety awareness at all levels within the organisation.
* Along with The Barnes Group Limited SHEQ Inspector/Advisor, investigate and report on all serious/critical personal injury incidents occurring to any employee, contractor, visitor or member of the public as a result of works undertaken by the organisation.
* To investigate and report on any complaints of hazardous working conditions to the Director responsible for SHEQ and/or other appropriate senior staff.
* To respond to employees’ safety concerns.
* In the first instance, act as the liaison person for any interaction with the HSE.
* In conjunction with the Divisional Managing Directors and the designated Director, coordinate the training of employees and have input into the preparation of appropriate SHEQ training as deemed necessary.
* To ensure that an up to date and appropriate fire evacuation process is in place at all The Barnes Group Limited buildings and test it on a regular basis.
* To assist in the development, preparation and implementation of The Barnes Group Limited Health and Safety Action Plan.
* To chair regular Safety, Health and Environmental committee meetings and issue reports and minutes in a timely fashion.
The duties of the position will vary from time to time as a result of new initiatives, new or amended employment legislation, changes in technology, policy changes or re-structuring. In these cases, appropriate training may be given to enable the post holder to undertake any new/varied work.
The post holder may also be requested to attend training courses and/or briefing sessions that may fall outside of the normal working week.
