Clinical Commitments
The successful candidate will, together with the present middle grade team share the responsibility for the reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and initial treatment of all patients attending the Emergency Department. This work includes late shifts weekly and contribution to weekend cover. Appropriate arrangements for continuing care of these patients will be made in conjunction with hospital and community colleagues.
Administration
The successful candidate will share the responsibility for the direct clinical supervision of junior medical and nursing staff.
Teaching Commitments
The junior medical staff are provided with 3 hours of formal teaching per week and the appointee will be expected to play a major role in this activity. He/she will also be involved in the teaching of nursing staff (including the Emergency Nurse Practitioners) and of medical students during their 8 week Emergency attachment.
Audit
The appointee will be expected to participate in and enhance the existing audit programme.
Work Commitment
The staff grade will work flexibly to provide extensive out of hours presence of senior medical staff within the Department and the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to such out of hours flexibility.
Continuing Professional Development
The appointee will accept responsibility for ensuring his/her own continuing professional development in for form of demonstrable CPD. Annual appraisal processes are in place within the Department.
Infection Control
All medical staff must co-operate with infection control measure which are in place throughout the Trust and comply with any guidance and best practice relating to Infection Control.
Mentoring
The Trust generates a mentoring programme for new doctors. On commencement, mentors can be allocated through discussion and agreement.
Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults
All Trust employees are required to act in such a way that at all times safeguards the health and well-being of children and vulnerable adults. Familiarisation with and adherence to Trust Safeguarding policies is an essential requirement of all employees, as is participation in related mandatory/statutory training.
Management of Risk and Health & Safety
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care to avoid injury to themselves or to others and to co-operate with the Trust in meeting its statutory requirements.
Appraisal and Revalidation
The Trust has a supportive and well-resourced Revalidation Department within the Medical HR Department. The revalidation process is underpinned by the Trust’s robust Clinical Governance systems.
