Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical or Counselling Psychologist or Senior Psychological Therapist to work within the Acute Inpatient Psychological Services team at St George's Park hospital, Morpeth.
The Acute Inpatient Service at St George's Park consists of two male wards and one female ward of 19 beds each. The post is available on a full-time basis working across two wards, or a part time basis working into one ward.
Within inpatient services, we hold the value of being creative and very much welcome new and improved processes and ideas. The service has a strong commitment to CPD and professional development, and we want to nurture each clinician in their career longer term.
You will be joining the Psychological Services Inpatient team who work across Acute, Rehabilitation and Older Adult inpatient wards. Our team is made up of Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, Art Psychotherapists and Assistant Psychologists. We also have a therapy dog in the service. We are a friendly, inclusive and diverse group of practitioners who bring a range of interests, experience and skills to the work we do. The Psychology team is well embedded into the respective wards within each pathway but are also located together in terms of office space at St George's Park which means that we maintain strong working relationships with each other across pathways as well.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will have the opportunity to:
1. Provide specialist psychological assessments (including neuropsychological assessment) and interventions with service users experiencing a broad range of mental health problems.
2. Facilitate team supervision/ reflective practice and debriefs.
3. Utilise research skills to design and conduct evaluations of the service. It is anticipated that these will lead to peer-reviewed publications.
4. Design and deliver training to ward-based staff and MDT colleagues specifically relevant to their needs.
5. Provide supervision to and support to MDT staff and a Higher Assistant Psychologist.

Person specification
Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
* An Honours Degree in Psychology recognised for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society, or RMN, or equivalent degree level qualification in mental health And Post-graduate qualifications in psychological assessment and psychological therapy (e.g. Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, Post-graduate diploma in CBT, IAPT High Intensity CBT diploma). HCPC registered practitioner psychologist or equivalent e.g. BABCP registered CBT practitioner. Or Member of an appropriate professional body
* Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and British Psychological Society. HCPC registered practitioner psychologist
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
* Knowledge of the theory and practice of one or more specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups relevant to the community pathway, e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities. Substantial post qualification experience of specialist model specific psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across a wide range of care settings. Demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a psychological therapist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Psychological Services Professional Lead. Experience of providing clinical supervision.
* Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups relevant to the client group Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex multivariable data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology. Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC. Formal training in clinical supervision of trainee clinical psychologists and other staff.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of the application of psychological therapy in different cultural contexts. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Trainer in Clinical Supervision.
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management. Specialist skills and competency in at least two evidence based psychological therapies relevant to the pathway. Knowledge of the theory and practice of one or more specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups relevant to the community pathway, e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities. Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing clinical supervision and consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Formal training in clinical supervision. Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the relevant regulating or professional body. Skills in managing emotional impact of dealing with highly emotive and distressing situations.

* Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi media materials for presentations within public, professional and academic settings. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive behaviour.

* Experience of working within a multicultural framework
