Trainee Clinical Photographer-Clinical Photography & Illustration
We are recruiting for a Trainee Clinical Photographer who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
As a Trainee Clinical Photographer you will provide support to the Department of Clinical Photography & Illustration (DCPI).
Contributing to the delivery of a day-to-day operational cost effective and efficient service including clinical photography, non-clinical photography, video and illustration (graphic design), to the Trust and other allied agencies.
The Trainee Clinical Photographer supports all clinical specialties including Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, Oral Surgery, ENT and Paediatrics (including sudden infant death and non-accidental injury), taking photographs in the studio, operating theatres, mortuary, outpatient clinics and on the wards.
Illustration (graphic design) and video have now become a major part of the DCPI's remit, and the Clinical Photographer will be expected to fully participate in this work using industry standard software e.g. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.
Main duties of the job
To support the department in the delivery of a comprehensive and professional Clinical Photography and Illustration service.
Training in-house will be provided in all aspects which the photographer is not fully conversant with.
Responsibilities include participating in the delivery of a comprehensive clinical photography service to all specialties using standard operating procedures, adapted from the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI) National Guidelines and ensuring ethical practices are followed.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in photography or equivalent.
* Ability to travel easily between sites.
Previous Experience
* Relevant experience in photography.
* Relevant experience in clinical photography.
* Relevant experience in graphic design.
* Relevant experience in video.
Skills
* Advanced keyboard and computer skills (desktop publishing, word processing, spreadsheet creation and image manipulation).
* Flexible in order to prioritise workload and respond to urgent requests e.g. theatre calls, meeting the needs of the service.
* Empathy to patients when dealing with sensitive issues e.g. child abuse and when obtaining images of an intimate nature.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills. Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Committed to producing the highest quality clinical photography to agreed national protocols (IMI guidelines), departmental guidelines and an agreement to undertake any additional study to maintain CPD and the upkeep of their professional registration.
* Competent in illustration (graphic design).
* Competent in video.
Knowledge
* Good knowledge of digital photography.
* Good knowledge of illustration (graphic design).
* Good knowledge of video.
* Good knowledge of relevant and current legislation, including those relating to patient confidentiality and consent e.g. GDPR.
* Good knowledge of medical terminology, physiology and anatomy.
Other requirements
* Participates in the DCPI out of hours on-call service.
* Frequent interruptions to respond to demand led service where requests are unpredictable.
* Responds to urgent theatre / A&E calls, prolonged studio activity and attendance at court as an expert witness.
* Supports the DCPI Manager in achieving departmental, divisional and Trust objectives.
* Maintains quality and standards within the department.
* Uses initiative when required e.g. when working in other Trust location and/or when Senior Clinical Photographer and DCPI Manager are unavailable.
* Ensures that work passing through the department is of a highly professional nature and that the rules of confidentiality are adhered to at all times.
* Ensures and observes all appropriate legislation and professional guidelines are met e.g. Health and Safety, Fire, patient confidentiality, Child Protection Act and Copyright and Patients Act.

£26,530 to £29,114 a year plus on-call arrangement when competent.
