This Protection Technical Sourcing and Standards Engineer will report to the Technical Sourcing and Standards Manager and will work within the Asset Management directorate based in our Energy House, Crawley office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £80,574 plus car and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after a 6-month probationary period — 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

Job Purpose:
The Technical Sourcing & Standards Team is vital to the Asset Management Directorate. You will develop protection and control technical standards, philosophies, and introduce innovative protection systems across the UKPN network at all voltage levels.
Responsibilities include:
* Managing the introduction of new technology for distribution assets and failure investigations, supporting procurement and operational units.
* Contributing to asset knowledge, regulatory reporting, and statistical analysis.
* Building relationships across departments, managing meetings, and communicating effectively at all levels.
* Undertaking post-fault analysis and initiating corrective actions.
* Developing design standards and conducting site visits, including operational substations, with safety compliance.
* Assessing manufacturers and suppliers for equipment compliance.
Qualifications:
* Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering.
* Experience with electrical systems up to 132kV.
* Understanding of protection systems, communication protocols (IEC60870-103, DNP3, MODBUS, IEC61850).
* Knowledge of web-based applications, project lifecycle, incident management, and asset management standards.
* Strong communication, problem-solving, and team skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety regulations.
