We invite applications for the role of Estimator, based in Southampton.
Purpose
To support the division's operations with accurate surveying, cost management, and bid submission.
Responsibilities include:
1. Overseeing projects to ensure costs remain in line with forecasts.
2. Compiling bids for work.
3. Calculating the cost of materials, transport, labour, and equipment hire.
4. Obtaining quotes for all predicted requirements from subcontractors and suppliers.
5. Collating detailed price lists for each project.
6. Clarifying client needs and expectations.
7. Reading blueprints and undertaking surveys.
8. Using relevant computer software such as Office 365, Excel, Word, and CAD.
9. Assessing and adhering to risk assessments and health and safety requirements.
10. Keeping up to date with inflation, exchange rates, and projected timescale costs.
11. Visiting proposed vessels, shipyards, and construction sites.
12. Liaising with operations managers, project coordinators, and design teams.
13. Presenting bids to clients and answering their questions.
14. Preparing and submitting quotations for work.
Skills & Qualifications:
1. Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
2. Client-facing experience with the ability to work at all levels within organizations (Senior Directors, Site Operatives, Major and Sub Contractors).
3. Ability to work within a team environment.
4. Flexibility and willingness to travel within the UK & Europe.
5. Full driving license is essential.
6. Commercially astute with experience negotiating profitable contracts and building long-term client relationships.
7. Strong understanding of the financial aspects of contract management and the ability to produce detailed working programs and plans.
8. Monitoring contract progress and assisting the Managing Director as necessary to ensure client requirements and company profit targets are met.
