Description The full-time starting salary is normally £33,391 per annum, with progression available in post to £36,295 per annum. Grade: S01 2 Full time permanent roles, and 1 full time contract role for 18 months Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for three Employability Advisers within our Faculty teams. There is one fixed term contract role for 18 month, and one permanent position available. Internal candidates wishing to be considered for the contract role will be given a secondment opportunity. Working in the Careers team and based within the Business, Law and Social Sciences (BLSS), the Arts, Design and Media (ADM) or the Computing, Engineering and Built Environment (CEBE) Careers Unit, the role is student facing and will suit an employability professional who understands the careers aspirations of students studying in one of these faculties. The post holder will work as part of a team to provide a range of employability services to students one-to-one and in groups, supporting them to work towards and successfully transition into work-related learning, work experience, professional placements, and graduate employment. As an Employability Adviser you will work alongside academic colleagues and external partners to provide a range of employability activity to students on relevant degree programmes, with the aim of enhancing their skills and supporting their progression. Duties of the roles include: Deliver employability advice to students one-to-one and in groups, helping them understand the labour market, job search and application techniques Work closely with students to match them to work-based learning and work experience opportunities, including longer professional placements. Assisting students in writing CV’s making successful applications and preparing for interviews Supporting and managing a caseload of students Work closely with employers to develop work-related opportunities for students Working with academic colleagues and embedding employability within the curriculum Develop links with relevant employers and understanding their recruitment needs and processes to enable students to secure opportunities Interested applicants should: Hold a relevant advice and guidance qualification but significant experience will also be considered. Have extensive experience of providing employability advice to groups and individuals, ideally in a Higher Education setting. Have a good understanding of the labour market and the recruitment needs and processes of employers. Extensive experience of working with students looking for placements. An understanding of relevant job sectors would be beneficial. As this role will predominately work with students studying Business, Law and Social Sciences as well as Arts, Design and Media courses, experience in this area would be welcomed but is not essential. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team who are committed to supporting students and graduates succeed and develop successful careers.
