The Post
Required for 1 September 2025, the Trustees are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic technician to support the delivery of Design & Technology across KS3-5. The successful candidate will be a joining a team of skilled DT teachers at Barton Court Grammar School. Product Design and Food & Nutrition are taught to examination level at KS4. Product Design is taught to A Level in KS5.
It is desirable that the candidate holds their DATA Health and Safety certificate and food hygiene certificate level 2. However, training is available if required.
The successful candidate should be able to show initiative and support the delivery of teaching in the classroom, providing reliable and high=quality technical support to students and staff alike. This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to work with colleagues to build a vibrant and outstanding department.
The DT department consists of three teachers and all convey a love for their subject and the enrichment programme offered is extensive.
In KS3 all students are taught Product Design and Food & Nutrition. There are usually two Product Design and one Food & Nutrition GCSE group. Product Design is taught to A Level.
The role is suitable for a colleague entering the profession and our support programme for ECTs is excellent. Alternatively, you might be looking to develop your career in a new context and we will be able to support in your career development.
An ability to teach DT at KS3 and Product Design across KS4-5 is essential. An ability to contribute to KS4 Food and Nutrition is desirable.

THE TRUST
Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT) is a multi-academy Trust which was established in 2017.
It currently consists of three secondary schools: Barton Court Grammar School, an 11-18 years, mixed selective school in the heart of Canterbury, rated “Good” with many outstanding features by Ofsted in February 2020 and November 2024; The Charles Dickens School, an 11-16 years mixed non-selective school in Broadstairs, rated “Good” by Ofsted in March 2023 and Barton Manor Free School, an 11–18 years non-selective mixed school in the heart of Canterbury which opened to Year 7 in September 2022 and as the school grows now has Y7, 8 and 9 from September 2024.
Our School
Barton Court Grammar School (BCGS)is a state, selective, co-educational school with a strong reputation for its high academic standards and its caring and supportive ethos. In February 2020 Ofsted judged the school to be ‘good’ and it possessed many ‘outstanding’ features. BCGS was inspected again in November 2024 and it continues to be a very good school. The School is an accredited ‘Advanced Thinking School’ and is also the lead school of Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT).
