Introduction The BBC is making the shift from being a broadcaster that speaks to our audiences to being a service that is shaped by them and designed around their wants and needs whilst stimulating and delighting audiences around the world. To achieve this mission of being a Digital First BBC, we are building a data organisation which will lead cultural and organisational change. This includes transitioning the BBC to a data product organisation, evolving our data architecture, and embedding data capabilities company wide. The Data Operations team are a newly formed capability that's mission it to enable agile and efficient data operations at the BBC, supporting the execution of its data strategy with innovation, integrity, and excellence. Their vision is to be at the forefront of the BBC's data-driven evolution, by driving agility and predictability within the Data organisation. Interview process At the BBC we value everyone's time and to that effect we don't run long or convoluted interview processes. The process will contain two steps: 1) A 30 Minute introductory call with the Head of Data Operations & Head of Data Domains focused on BBC values and your fit for the role and the culture. 2) A 90 Minute Panel Interview comprising of a pre-set case study applicable to the role, and a competency based assessment. Responsibilities As a Senior Technical Project Manager, you will be an Expert Individual Contributor but also as required Lead a team of Data Operations Managers. You will be an expert on delivering complex Data led initiatives across large organisations, often working across departmental boundaries and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels of the business. You will be accountable for the planning, delivery and overall day-to-day coordination and management of a portfolio of workstreams that underpins our Data Strategic Vision. Responsibilities are not solely however on delivery of projects, but also to drive adoption of Agile techniques, and a continuous improvement mindset across Data teams, coaching teams to be not only self-sufficient but self-optimising. Specifically, you will be responsible for: • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, promoting transparency, collaboration, and innovation in outcome delivery. • Overseeing the Data portfolio & end-to-end delivery process, from project initiation to successful delivery. • Identifying and managing project risks, dependencies, and impediments, and implementing mitigation strategies to drive successful strategic outcomes. • Ensuring commitments to stakeholders are met and any alterations to expectations are fully documented and communicated. • Championing agile best practices, providing coaching and mentorship to teams and individuals, and facilitate the development of agile competencies. • Collaborating closely with key stakeholders, including senior management, product managers, and development teams, to align on project priorities, timelines, and resource allocation. • Working closely with finance, procurement, vendors & your data stakeholders to forecast, manage and control internal & external expenditure within the department ensuring strategic & commercial alignment. • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and effective communication among team members, stakeholders, and senior management. You would have experience in: • Deep working knowledge of Agile and how it can be implemented in a variety of models and organisations. • Experience leading and delivering Data Led initiatives in large scale organisations. • Creating leadership level communications, providing clarity & understanding on complex topics. • Leading & navigating procurement processes and managing Vendor performance. • Coaching teams to utilise OKR's to inform, guide and focus delivery. • Creating & maintaining programme and/or project plans, with robust Risks management. • Mentoring and coaching direct reports and other colleagues in great delivery practices. • Change management and leading multiple complex cross-functional teams in either industry or consulting environments. • Leading delivery for multiple teams including using metrics and reporting to drive change. • Making significant improvements to an organisation's ways of working that has led to noticeable improvements in its success metrics. • The management of scoping and sizing of large complex pipelines of work. • Demonstrable experience working in a technical/systems/backend delivery environment.
