Senior Catering Assistant
Salary: £22,750 - £23,660 (FTE per annum)
Contract type: Permanent
Working hours: Part time, 4 days a week
Location: Cley Marshes, Coast Road, Cley next the Sea, Norfolk, NR25 7SA
It is an exciting time to join Norfolk Wildlife Trust as we approach our centenary celebrations in 2026 and implement our new strategy, expanding our vital work for Norfolk’s wildlife.
NWT’s nature reserve at Cley Marshes, on the North Norfolk Coast, was the first wildlife trust nature reserve. Founded in 1926 it is both nationally and internationally renowned as a special place for its birdlife. It attracts a broad spectrum of visitors from across the UK and beyond; specialist naturalists, serious and casual bird watchers to tourists, day trippers and those simply wanting to enjoy the breath-taking scenery and wildlife to be found in North Norfolk.
The visitor centre at Cley Marshes has been designed to fit in with the environment in the way it sits in the landscape and in its use of renewable energy generation and environmentally friendly materials. As well as providing information, interpretation and sales goods, the centre has a café providing for around 50 covers.
Reporting to the NWT Cley Catering Manager the Senior Catering Assistant will use all best endeavours to deliver a high-quality service in a warm and friendly way.
The Senior Catering Assistant will work closely with the Catering Manager in the preparation, presentation and service of hot and cold light meals, sandwiches, snacks and beverages using ingredients and products from local sources and aiming to achieve a very high standard at all times.
The successful candidate will be the holder of a Food Hygiene Certificate or alternatively be willing to undertake the necessary training, with some experience and a proven ability of successful working in the catering industry. A good communicator, with good numeracy and literacy skills, you will be well presented, and you will demonstrate the ability to work efficiently in all aspects of the role.
An interest in wildlife would be an advantage, and we can provide opportunities for you to learn more if you wish.
A rota system is in operation and hours will be agreed in advance with the Visitor Centre Manager and the Catering Manager. Public holidays and weekend days are classified as working days.
The Visitor Centre is mainly a daytime operation, but does have some limited evening events. This means that evening work may be expected on occasion.

We will only contact you if you have been selected for an interview. Unfortunately, due to the high number of applications for posts, we do not have the resources to provide feedback from the application stage.
