Experienced Animal Keeper and Animal Trainer (Demos) - Foot Safari
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Animal Keeper to join the Animal Encounters department. This position is offered on a permanent full-time basis and has a focus on the daily demonstrations and animal training.
Working as part of the demonstrations team, you will be expected to deliver high-quality educational and entertaining displays of natural behaviours. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with and train an exciting collection of birds and mammals, including, but not exclusively to; raptors, psittacines and California sea lions; and be a part of continually developing and improving the daily displays.
Alongside this, the post sits within the “foot safari” area of Woburn Safari Park which has a diverse range of species including small mammals, birds, marine mammals, primates, hoof stock, reptiles and invertebrates. The post-holder will be expected to report and advise on husbandry, animal training and staff safety matters via the Head of Section. You will also ensure the Departments and the Park's objectives are the driving force behind all activities within the Animal Encounters section, including ensuring the best possible customer experience is delivered.
You will have previous experience of working within a zoological collection or within a similar environment. We prefer a minimum of 2 years previous experience; preferably with the species we hold, however those candidates with comparable experience will be considered.
The successful applicant will need to be a highly motivated, flexible, hardworking individual who has a good understanding of animal behaviour and preferably previous experience training and working with a variety of species. The ability to take part in public presentations is essential, as well as exceptional animal husbandry skills, high standards of animal care and excellent communication skills.
A Zoo Animal Management qualification or equivalent is desirable but not essential for the position; you would be expected to work towards achieving this.
Driving is a fundamental requirement of the role; therefore, you must hold a full current driving licence.
The successful applicant should demonstrate a passion for animal welfare and conservation, be highly motivated, flexible and committed to Woburn Safari Park’s high standards of husbandry and welfare.
Applicants will need to be flexible as regular peak time working is required to meet the needs of the business. This includes weekends, school holidays and Bank Holidays.
