Job Description : As a Senior Test Support Engineer at Cosworth, you will be working within the Test House to provide a mixture of day to day hands on engineering support. This includes new equipment installation, and ownership and delivery of one or more facility upgrades. The role requires a broad range of engineering knowledge deployed in such a way that the department provides accurate and reliable testing of internal combustion engines, rigs and associated components. The Role: To take the company’s engine test requirements and deliver suitable engineering solutions, on time, to achieve those. To have extensive experience of supporting automotive (or similar) powertrain and rig/component testing. The senior engineer will cover both investigation and resolution of day to day faults with the test equipment but also able to select, install, set up and calibrate a range of pressure, temperature, torque, flow & humidity transducers on new installations, and as additional requests. This includes programming the dyno control/logging system with automated test routines and logging, alarms, PID control etc. Confident with root cause fault finding and the subsequent resolving of electrical, software and mechanical testbed/rig issues. Will be responsible for specifying, costing, planning and delivering one or more planned upgrades to the test facility. These maybe delivered wholly with internal resource or with the assistance of subcontractor(s). Assessing and securing sub-contractor services for the current equipment and managing their delivery. Work to improving departmental resources and capability by maintaining records and writing and implementing procedures etc. Issue clear and timely progress/status updates to management. Provide guidance, instruction and knowledge transfer to more junior members of the team. Consider the health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities. Support the Company’s compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice. Candidate Profile: The successful candidate will have a good selection of the following skills: Good understanding of internal combustion engines and engine test methodology. Specification & implementation of instrumentation systems (temperature, pressure, vibration, strain etc), measurement & logging equipment. i.e. strong knowledge of how to configure and maintain test bed control systems. CP Cadet or AVL Puma preferred. Capable of programming control loops, PID controllers, automated test routines etc. Specification and delivery of small and larger scale test facility upgrades. Experience of working with sub-contractors. Writing of specifications, procedures and documentation of work carried out. Programming experience (C or Visual Basic) Electronic and electrical circuit design knowledge. Have a passion for engineering and problem solving and be able to organise own and others workload in an effective manner. Good interpersonal skills, confident clear communication, both verbal and written.
