Mechanical Design Engineer (Principal)

A local Design & Manufacturing company who specialises in producing specialist products for the Defence, Marine and Water Industries now requires a Mechanical Engineer to join their team.
Purpose of Role - Mechanical Design Engineer
1. Design authority for all electronics, software and mechanical design activities within the company.
2. Support the Director of Engineering in management of design & development projects.
3. Assign tasks to the Mechanical Design team, setting project goals, negotiating with vendors and clients, ensuring projects stay within time and budgetary restraints. Mentoring and developing the team.
4. Scientific instrumentation design from concept to final product.
5. Forward look at design and manufacturing tools/techniques that could be adopted by the company.
6. Specific product design activities within projects.
7. Project Management.
8. Bidding, business promotion and development.
9. Product test and on-site commissioning.
10. Customer liaison.
Candidate requirements - Mechanical Design Engineer
The ideal candidate must come from the engineering industry as a Design Engineer. You will also have the following skills, qualifications and experience:
1. A sound understanding of engineering disciplines & a high level of design ability and engineering knowledge.
2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
3. Experience of leading and developing a design team in a high technology engineering environment.
4. Knowledge of components, suppliers and processes.
5. Experience using Solidworks.
6. Security clearance will be applied for on appointment - UK passport holders (no dual nationals) only plus proof of residency in UK for the last 5 years.
Qualifications:
* Applicants should hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering (2.1 or higher) from a recognized university, have a number of years' experience working as a design engineer in a high technology engineering environment.
