Reporting to the Activation Supervisor, the Activity Aide will assess, deliver and evaluate age-appropriate recreational, leisure, and educational programs according to the abilities, residents’ quality of life by using a resident-driven approach.
Main Duties:
1. Support and help provide a resident advocacy program through the promotion and respect of the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
2. Participate in planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring recreation and leisure services for the residents.
3. Assist residents’ participation by using humanizing elements (pets, plants, birds, children, volunteers, décor, and programs) and integrating them into the everyday life of the residents.
4. Communicate with and support families in their involvement and participation.
5. Organize and implement activities providing physical and mental stimulation as well as social interaction to attain special goals.
6. Work on a one-on-one and small group basis when implementing activities.
7. Participate in meetings on clinical, administrative, and/or educational issues.
8. Assist and escort residents to group activities according to residents’ interests and abilities, both within the facility and in the community.
9. Supervise volunteers when implementing activities.
10. Participate in assessing the recreation, social, and family needs of new and current residents.
11. Ensure accurate documentation of recreation and leisure services for the residents.
Qualifications:
1. Post-secondary diploma, degree, or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology, or other related fields from an Ontario post-secondary institution.
2. Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR (HCP) level.
3. Experience working with seniors and providing programs.
4. Understanding of Alzheimer’s Disease.
5. Bilingual in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) preferred.
6. Ability to work independently.
7. Capable of working as a team player.
8. Able to work evenings and weekends.
9. Able to participate in off-site activities and various religious activities.
