We have an exciting, newly-created position where you can lead a major project to enhance and expand the culture of safety and risk management within a cutting-edge university department. This full-time role offers the flexibility of working remotely up to one day a week and requires close collaboration with the Division Safety Office under the supervision of the Head of Administration and Finance. As our new safety leader, you will be working in a laboratory and chemicals-based department, promoting a robust safety culture and facilitating safe, innovative teaching and research across the Department of Materials. You will collaborate closely with academic staff, offering expert support, advice, and training in all areas of health and safety. Embedded within a cross-departmental team of safety professionals, you'll benefit from a wide network of supportive colleagues and ample opportunities for training and career progression. Key Responsibilities:
1. Actively promote and enhance the safety culture within the Department of Materials.
2. Facilitate safe and innovative teaching and research initiatives.
3. Provide expert support, advice, and training to academic staff.
4. Collaborate effectively with the Division Safety Office and other safety professionals.
Required Qualifications:
5. Proven ability to promote safe and innovative practices in teaching and research.
6. Extensive experience in risk management within a laboratory setting.
7. Strong awareness of chemical safety protocols.
8. Excellent interpersonal, observational, and diplomatic skills.
9. Strong team-working ethos.
10. Delivery-focused with the ability to see projects through from start to finish.
