Assistant Accountant Assistant Accountant's Role Summary The Assistant Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Management Accountant by ensuring financial processes are completed accurately and efficiently. This includes producing monthly and annual financial statements and maintaining strong financial controls, such as reconciliations and account clearances. Assistant Accountant's Main Responsibilities Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and reviews, complete month-end processes, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations and assist with VAT returns. Conduct and review bank reconciliations for month-end financial statements and complete HMRC submissions. Assist in preparing year-end audit files and liaising with external auditors. Review vendor accounts, including payment details, and advise the Purchase Ledger team on any necessary updates. Confirm bank detail changes directly with suppliers. Oversee vendor creation and payment review processes. Assist in automating vendor payment processes and updating vendor onboarding procedures and update bank payment details within Business Central. Ensure prompt recharging of costs to customers and maintain customer accounts, ensuring new accounts and changes align with contractual agreements. Process sales invoices accurately and in line with customer contracts. Manage intra-group recharges, ensuring all balance sheet charges are promptly invoiced each month. Conduct intra-group financial reviews. Assistant Accountant's Qualifications & Education Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent. AAT qualification desirable. Accounting Specialist's Skills & Experience Experience working within an engineering or manufacturing function. Strong IT skills, particularly with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel. Ability to present financial information in a structured and balanced manner. Strong time management skills, particularly during financial period ends. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders. Proactive, confident, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
