Position: Lead / Staff Bioinformatics Scientist
Location: Cambridge (Hub and Hybrid, Onsite or Remote in the UK)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead / Staff Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team in Cambridge, working alongside engineering, chemistry, and assay teams on R&D projects delivering new sequencing platforms and technologies.
This is a senior-level role, requiring extensive experience in Bioinformatics to lead and develop projects. We are open to your location, whether hub, hybrid, onsite, or remote in the UK.

As a senior member of the Bioinformatics team, you will support bioinformatics activities in cross-functional programs, including:
* Defining bioinformatics milestones and requirements
* Leading data analysis activities
* Developing novel tools and pipelines
* Contributing to project strategy
This role requires strong bioinformatics and programming skills, initiative, cross-team collaboration, and a thorough understanding of product development processes.
Responsibilities include:
* Represent bioinformatics in R&D projects across multiple sites for designing, developing, and validating novel sequencing products
* Lead data quality and bioinformatics functions in product development teams, including defining milestones, setting priorities, and delegating tasks
* Contribute to automated testing infrastructure and pipelines
* Plan and execute strategies for assessing data quality from new technologies
* Analyze, interpret, and model experimental data; translate results into practical recommendations
* Represent bioinformatics on cross-functional initiatives

Qualifications
We seek a driven, professional leader with significant bioinformatics experience to develop and implement solutions, supporting internal functions globally. You should have experience in academia and/or industry, with an honest approach, enjoy mentoring, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R)
* Familiarity with next-generation sequencing technologies
* Experience analyzing and visualizing NGS data and large datasets
* Knowledge of bioinformatics pipelines and data formats
* Understanding of statistical and biological concepts
* Unix/Linux environment experience, including shell scripting and HPC
* Experience designing automated workflows (desirable)
* Effective communication skills for collaboration
Education:
Masters/PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, or related field.
