The position of Piping Inspector requires the individual to physically inspect, assess, and report on the condition of pressurised piping and associated equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
As the competent person under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR), the role involves evaluating the condition of equipment and determining its suitability for continued service. All inspections are to be conducted in accordance with company and client procedures, site standards, and international design codes, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the competent person performing mechanical pressure system inspections, including NDT (UT, MPI, DPI) when required, in line with legal and company standards.
* Develop appropriate NDT plans, selecting suitable techniques for identifying degradation mechanisms as specified in the Work Site Evaluation (WSE) .
* Conduct corrosion loop inspections, prepare work packs, enter data into SharePoint, and update relevant registers.
* Review piping work packs, conduct line walks where necessary, and prepare for inspections and NDT activities.
* Prepare detailed piping inspection reports, documenting the as-found condition of equipment, and providing recommendations for future inspection intervals.
* Generate CAIRS (Corrective Action Items Reports) and submit repair recommendations to Area Inspectors and clients.
* Raise SAP notifications to support job planning, resourcing, and man-hour allocation.
* Liaise with client representatives and other departments (such as TAS, Corrosion Engineers, and Area Inspectors ) to ensure the timely completion of work.
* Conduct structural inspections, PFP inspections, and inspect small-bore tubing as required.
* Organize weekly workloads according to the inspection plan, ensuring targets and deadlines are met.
* Attend departmental meetings as needed and maintain accurate records in client systems, ensuring that all outstanding actions are addressed.
* Perform general administrative duties, including timesheet submissions, SAP history, and planning activities.
* Work in compliance with all health and safety regulations, ensuring the safety of both self and colleagues while meeting all client safety requirements.
Position in Organisation
* Report to the Senior Plant Inspector and the client's representative regarding day-to-day tasks and operational priorities.
Required Skills/Experience
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar inspection role.
* In-depth understanding and working knowledge of the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR) .
* Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
* Proficient in the use of computer software and various industry-related tools.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritise work efficiently.
Required Qualifications
* UKAS RG2 Category 3 certification.
* PCN Level 2 qualifications in UT (3.1 & 3.2), MPI, and DPI (desirable).
* IRATA Rope Access certification at L1, L2, or L3 .
* ASME Level 1 Plant Inspector and/or API 570 certification.
