Job summary An opportunity has arisen to join our secretarial department for the role of a GP assistant (clerical). This position will be either 1 x full time or 2 x part time, dependent on the successful candidates. We are a large Practice and have a strong friendly team who are very supportive of each other. Start date will be as soon as possible. Main duties of the job The successful applicant will support the smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration tasks on behalf of the GPs, freeing up their time to focus on the patients. Duties will include Reviewing and coding of clinical correspondence and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions required. Signposting correspondence to other members of the team such as clinical pharmacist etc. Arranging appointments, referrals, letters, tests and follow up appointments for patients. Co-ordinating patient related meetings such as MDT, safeguarding, palliative care, ensuring minutes are taken, medical records updated and actions taken. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefit agency forms. Preparing, reviewing and sending subject access requests for medical records. Explaining treatment procedures to patients. Organise and book private medical examinations. Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies eg, contacting on-call doctor to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation. General office duties including typing, photocopying, filing, processing paperwork. Post external mail and arrange recorded delivery where necessary. Any other duty considered relevant to the role.
