DemocraFest University Organiser Role We're a grass-roots group of young people organizing Britain's first democracy festival, DemocraFest, which aims to make young people more politically engaged. You can find out more about DemocraFest here: https://www.democrafest.co.uk. Where do young people go to engage in politics currently in the UK? The only venue for political engagement is party conferences which are party political, intimidating, often dull and generally aimed at an older audience. We want to build a forum for political debate outside of Westminster and make politics fun to a younger audience by focusing on the key issues affecting young people in the UK in a relaxed festival-style atmosphere with music and local food. We took inspiration from a wave of democracy festivals in Scandinavian countries which have been really successful at making people more engaged and excited about politics. We have speakers lined up from each of the main political parties, celebrities and experts in different fields, podcasters, comedians, and musicians. DemocraFest aims to achieve three things: (1) Make 18 to 35-year-olds more socially and politically engaged. (2) Engage with views across the spectrum, especially if you don’t agree with them. (3) Show that debating and politics can be fun. DemocraFest will bring these values alive and open the door onto a new era of political and social discourse. Watch this space. Volunteering with us University Organizers will respond to the Founder of DemocraFest, the Marketing Manager, and our team of event planners as they liaise with their respective universities. We are looking for someone with a strong background in social media marketing, political activism, advertising, and/or event planning. Our ideal candidate is someone who would take initiative to help connect us with both a network of debate speakers and festival attendees through the outreach methods outlined below. Most of all, we are looking for someone who aligns with our values listed above and is eager to change the political climate in the UK by growing our movement so that engagement with politics becomes the norm and young people aren’t scared to have their views challenged. We are looking for part-time interns to join us to help with the following tasks: Create a network of at least five society presidents at your University who align with our mission. Presidents of the societies will receive one free ticket to the festival Help organize a debate at your University over the coming academic year with a partnership between DemocraFest and a society or club of your choice Help prepare our 2026 festival agenda Promote our event on various social media platforms with at least one post a month Attend an away day with all of the other University Organizers in the winter and present on progress Research potential partners, sponsors and speakers Email or contact via social media potential partners, sponsors and speakers and keep our tracker up-to-date with who we have reached out to Help put together the programme and co-ordinate with our programme organizers You would have the opportunity to work with us in our office in central London (five minute walk from Westminster tube).
