LOCUM CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC GENERAL SURGERY - 1 post (10 PA's)
Applications are invited for the above full-time NHS locum post, at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with an aim to being a substantive post in the near future.

This is an exciting time to be joining BHFT which was formed in April 2020 with the merger of Bedford Hospital and the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital. Our integration strategy is well developed and seeks to provide the best experience for staff and the patients we care for.
Main duties of the job
The Trust is expanding our paediatric general surgery service across Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust working collaboratively with our current Paediatric General Surgeon, Mr Roy Gurprashad.
This is a newly created post to support the expansion of Paediatric Surgery within the Trust as per our strategic direction. At present we have one general paediatric surgeon based at Luton and Dunstable Hospital. Patients at Bedford are transferred/referred to major paediatric hubs including Addenbrookes and GOSH. Therefore, elective activity across both sites is required for this role and will be structured within an agreed job plan with the successful candidate.
The successful applicant will join our current team of 9 Upper GI consultants with varying specialist interests including Bariatric, Upper GI, Pancreatobiliary and Paediatric surgery.
This role does not currently include an on-call expectation.

Qualifications
* Medical Degree
* MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
Registration
* Full GMC registration (GMC licence to practice is mandatory before employment commences)
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview), or CESR (must be on Specialist Register at time of applying)
Personal Circumstances
* Residence within 10 miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital for purposes of on-call emergencies.
* Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory Occupational Health clearance
* Satisfactory DBS clearance
Clinical Experience
* Excellent all round experience of DGH work
* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Paediatric General Surgery
* Able to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems, both emergency and elective within Paediatric General Surgery
* Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision.
* Experience in Laparoscopic Paediatric Surgery
* Period of time training in fellowship out of region
* Experience in diagnostics and therapeutic Upper GI Endoscopy with JAG accreditation
Clinical Effectiveness
* Understanding of clinical governance and ability to demonstrate ongoing CPD
* Experience of guideline appraisal
* Participation in relevant local audits
* Ability to interpret and apply clinical research
* Participation in relevant national audits
Teaching
* Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students
* Has attended Teaching the Teachers or similar course

* Ability to co-operate in a democratic team environment

Clinical Governance
* Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance.
