We are excited to be recruiting for an Epidemiologist for our client near Guildford who deliver world-leading research studying viral disease outbreaks in livestock. They take pride in their ability to understand the immune systems of livestock, offering a foundation for managing existing diseases and addressing emerging threats. This is a fixed term contract until July 2026, offering a salary of £38,500 - £40,000 per annum. As an Epidemiological Modeller you will analyse data from experimental studies conducted by the Transmission Biology and African Swine Fever teams, integrating the findings into models to understand and manage the transmission and control of FMD and ASF. Key Responsibilities: Model Development (80%) Design and develop models for the transmission, surveillance, and control of FMDV and ASFV, supporting decision-making for policy makers Collaborate with field and laboratory scientists to integrate their findings into model frameworks Collaboration with Other Modelling Groups (10%) Establish and maintain collaborative links with UK-based teams developing FMDV and ASFV models Work with external scientists to integrate Pirbright's research into their models Outbreak Response (5%) Support the Institute’s response to disease outbreaks as needed Institute Contributions (5%) Participate actively in institute activities, including research meetings, seminars, and journal clubs Collaborate with colleagues to foster a positive and productive research environment Job Requirements: PhD with a substantial mathematical modelling component Experience of applying mathematical models to epidemiology Experience of Bayesian methods for model fitting Experience of working on foot-and-mouth disease virus Experience of working on African swine fever virus Experience of collaborating with laboratory and field scientists Experience of writing papers and reports Experience of communicating with policy makers
