The role
As a Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Reporting to the Commissioning Health, Safety and Wellbeing Lead, you'll become a member of the Commissioning Alliance. You'll play a key role where you'll be responsible for ensuring commissioning programme adherence and compliance with applicable statutory H&S legislative requirements and identifying non-compliances, as well as providing guidance on such matters.
Day-to-day, you’ll provide advice and guidance for smooth operation, reporting and resolution of HSE issues. Moreover, ensuring the daily coordination of the Commissioning Health and Safety Management arrangements, and monitoring between Commissioning Programme and the pre-Operations Industrial Safety team.
* Participate in maintaining and improving Health, Safety and Environmental performance in control of risks across the Commissioning programme.
* Review Commissioning RAMS and provide technical safety advice to Commissioning members to eliminate/reduce risks/hazards to people, plant and environment.
* Provide advice and support in producing relevant and appropriate Health and Safety performance reports, including identification of trends and early warnings of possible issues, recommending appropriate action.
* Establish and maintain Health and Safety risk profiles and undertake associated risk-based assessments, inspections and Health and Safety assurance activities.
* Support the implementation of Commissioning H&S arrangements from the Health and Safety Plan during the commissioning phase at HPC.
* Actively support monitoring of health and safety surveillances within Commissioning and Commissioning DMIC scope and challenging where appropriate and record.
This role is full time, 37-hours per week and is based on site at Hinkley Point C near Bridgwater.
Essential experience of the HSE Engineer
* Strong communication skills with the ability to develop a wide network and working relationships within EDF and the construction industry.
* Health and Safety experience including within a large project environment.
* Strong focus on identifying risks/hazards and implications while providing mitigations using processes.
* Able to produce high-quality records and reports, providing safety assurance through communication of HSE data and information.
* Competent in using Microsoft applications and an aptitude to learn new software packages.
* Ability to engage with others on health and safety, environmental issues and provide practical advice on how technical issues should be addressed safely.
* Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of national and international HSE standards.
Qualifications for the HSE Engineer
* NEBOSH HSE Diploma or equivalent
* Chartered membership of IOSH or equivalent / working toward membership is desirable
